Description:
The Chemical Automation Support Engineer performs control system engineering in the Automation Support Group (ASG). The ASG is responsible for supporting the installed control systems and instrumentation at the facility. This position reports to the Automation Support Superintendent who reports to the Asset Services manager. Overall responsibilities include: · Providing technical assistance to Operations and Asset Services for troubleshooting the installed control systems and instrumentation. · Implementing any capital or asset support activities on schedule and in a cost effective manner. · Prioritizing work that is consistent with plant and corporate priorities. · All work activities must be based on sound, acceptable engineering practices, following facilities safety requirements, while meeting the plant’s needs and requirements.
DUTIES/RESONSIBILITIES: The automation support engineer’s categories of job responsibilities are control systems administration, project engineering, instrumentation technology, and technical consultant. Control systems Administration: · Provide support of existing control systems platforms such as developing and implementing system backup and restore procedures · Perform control system hardware and software upgrades. · Manage system accounts and system security strategy. Project Engineering: · Lead project or provide assistance to project leads & engineers on automation projects. · Perform design work; Develop scope, control strategies, and operator interface to control system (graphics); Specify instrumentation. · Implementation and testing: code control logic, work with operations to develop test plan and start up plan, commission and loop check field devices, test control and interlock logic. · Assure that automation projects can be supported by ASG and instrument maintenance after start-up. · Collaborate with multiple disciplines on projects including: all engineering disciplines, vendors, engineering consultants, operations management, maintenance technicians, and operators. · Specify and procure instrumentation and control system equipment. Experience with SAP and Integraph SPI Intools a plus · Review code and engineering standards related to project design requirements Instrumentation Technology:
Perform instrument engineering design calculations and instrument specification Experienced in field instrument application for chemical processes needs to be able to determine proper sensor or final control element for a service Evaluate available instrumentation technologies Use AMS capability to create calibration procedures and establish calibration records Support instrumentation technicians and assist maintenance with technical issues Troubleshoot installed instrumentation
Technical Consultant: · Provide operations support for loop tuning and process optimization · Troubleshoot plant equipment and systems. Propose modifications to existing processes and automation strategies. · Develop and provide formal automation system training. Perform informal automation system training as needed. Create operating manuals and design documentation. · Monitoring unit alarms and propose alarm management strategies to operations to rationalize and optimize unit alarms to increase safety awareness and optimize utilization of control systems · Maintain plant configuration standards and conventions. SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: · Bachelor’s degree in engineering and at least two years of instrumentation/control system experience in a chemical manufacturing facility · Chemical manufacturing plant experience · Experience implementing the hardware and software for process control systems (PLC and DCS) · Experience with the following process control systems: DeltaV, APACS, Allen Bradley, and RS-3. Experience with fieldbus networks such as Foundation Fieldbus, ASi, and DeviceNet · Experience with the following manufactures equipment: Rosemount, Fisher Valve, and Micro Motion. · Verbal and written communication with others on a professional level; Good interpersonal skills · Experience implementing and supporting batch control applications and applying ISA S88 standards · Working knowledge of ISA (Instrument Society of America) terminology and symbolism · Awareness of OSHA, NFPA and other governing bodies and design to their standards where applicable · Ability to make independent decisions on engineering problems CONSIDERED A PLUS:
·Experience with OSI PI historian, Emerson AMS, Integraph Smart Plant Instrumentation I
